Another letter from a supporter

This is a long distance email for support:

Hi, Gary,

Just want you to know that I am one of your constituents living in Melbourne
(Victoria) Australia. I always go to the web to help me make my choices and
I have done that with you. I'm happy to report that you will get my
(absentee) vote today because of something you said in your speech about
immigration. You are so right on, Gary! The Republicans could well have
fixed the immigration problem long ago if it weren't such a hot button
campaign issue that they can use to yank the chains of conservatives. You
would think that people have had more than enough time to figure out the
manipulations of their leaders and how they work to pull the wool over the
eyes of the voters, but they haven't. Nor will they figure things out for a
long, long time until and unless you and people like you make public
statements about the manipulations. This may not make you very popular, Gary
Page. In fact, it could make you unpopular, but I hope you have guts enough
to focus on reality and ignore the hype. Example: In 2003 there were at
least two books (that I know of) written by competent people, including an
arms inspector, that said there were no WMDs in Iraq. I was speaking with my
son who is an Army Reserve captain and told him what I had read. "No, mom,"
he told me, "you don't know everything. I've been briefed on it and there
are WMDs there." Well, Gary, I don't know what he was told, but whatever it
was, my son bought it-and so did 300 million Americans! Over here in
Australia things were a lot more clear. In addition to watching U.S. news
channels (ABC and CBS), I also watch Australian and international channels
and it was much more clear to us that the world was being bamboozled by Bush
than it was to you guys over there. Our (Australian) army is totally
overstretched because of Iraq and we are having to spend millions trying to
recruit more members to take care of stuff (like East Timor) nearer home
that is a threat to our own security. (We're only 20 million people in the
entire country with a land area equal to the U.S.) But, never mind, Gary.
Just keep up the good work. Try not to fall into the propaganda traps that
lay in wait for you in DC. Try not to listen too hard to those around you
who are enthralled by the false messages they hear. Ask yourself, "What's in
it for them?" when the pols start making an issue out of something. Keep
your nose clean and your life above reproach. That's how you can really do
an excellent job for us.

May the power of love be with you and protect you always,

Bette

It's better for our country for people of good faith to be involved in the political process. Even as frustrating as it can get.
